Winter 2012 Anniversaries

Jean (Anders) ‘51 and Perry Beaver of Camden celebrated their 60th
wedding anniversary June 15. They were married June 15, 1951, in El
Paso, Texas, at First Baptist Church. Beaver is retired from International
Paper Co. after 38 years of service. They have two sons, Ron and Mark
Beaver, both of Camden, and two grandchildren.

Martha and Louis Blanchard ‘59 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary
with a family trip to the Northeast. They married August 15, 1951, in the First
Baptist Church of Marks, Miss. Martha is a former teacher and employee of
the Cooperative Extension Service. Louis was formerly employed by Price
Waterhouse & Co., C.P.A. firm of Houston, Texas. He retired after 44 years
as professor of accountancy at Southern Arkansas University, of which he
and Martha continue to be avid supporters. Their children are Gail and Ken
Michaels and Alice and Mark Thomas, and children Lexi and Tricia.

Gene (Lee) ’52 and Dr. Harold Brinson ’49 celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary on December 30, 2011, at Balboa Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village.

Martha (Kyle) ‘60 and Larry Crain ‘62 of Houma, La., recently celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren
in Gulf Shores, Ala. They were married on June 18, 1961 at Christie’s
Chapel Methodist Church. They have two children, Greg Crain, who lives
in Houma and Renee Geile, who lives in Ballwin, Mo. They also have four
grandchildren.

Jane (Shankle) ’63 and Bob Hall ‘63 celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary at St. Paul United Methodist Church with a reception hosted
by their children, as well as Euletta Thompson and Liz Slater. They were
married on June 23, 1961, at the home of the bride. They have two children,
Susan Hall of Youngsville, La., and Gary Hall of El Dorado. Jane is a certified
lay minister at St. Paul. Bob retired in 1999 from Great Lakes Chemical
Corporation where he served as comptroller. He also retired from the U.S.
Air Force as a lieutenant colonel.

Nancy (Williams) and Dr. Jerry Kendall ’59 celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary at the Family Life Center at First Methodist Church in Camden.
They married October 14, 1961, at Hephzibah Baptist Church in Emerson.
Dr. Kendall is retired from Ouachita Clinic as a family physician. The
anniversary celebration was given by their children, Kelly Kendall, John
and Michelle Kendall, and Stan and Cyndi Kendall. The couple has five
grandchildren.

Carolyn (Goza) and Ellis Landers ‘62 celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary. The couple married September 29, 1961. Mrs. Landers is
retired from the Pulaski County Special School District. Mr. Landers retired
from the IRS and owns an accounting and tax business. They are the
parents of Todd Landers of Sherwood and have one grandchild.

Cora (Russell) ‘64 and Joe Rogers ’62 of Camden celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary with a family trip. They were married June 11, 1961.
Rogers is owner of Rogers Lumber Mill Company of Camden. They are
the parents of Denise Lancaster and Joe Rogers Jr. of Camden and Susan
Long of Conway. They have seven grandchildren.

Alice and Charles Shinn ’60 of Hot Springs celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary with a dinner hosted by their children. They were married on
March 26, 1961, at Central Baptist Church in Magnolia. Mr. Shinn was born
and raised in Magnolia where he was a house building contractor. He also
owned and operated Shinn Wholesale Company, a candy, tobacco, cigarette
and grocery business that was started by his family in 1938. In 1998, he
and his children went into building and operating hotels in Arkansas. The
Shinn’s have two children: Pam Spelman of Dallas, Texas, and Greg Shinn
of Hot Springs. They also have five grandchildren.

Barbara and Bill Scurlock celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
on May 14 with a family celebration in Little Rock. They were married on
May 13, 1961, in Rayville, La. They have three children: Anne Alderson
of El Dorado, David Scurlock of Atlanta, Ga., and John Scurlock of Little
Rock. They also have five grandchildren. Barbara (Futch) Scurlock is
from Rayville. Dr. Scurlock, a native of Waldo, is a physician at the South
Arkansas Surgical Clinic.
