The new Magnolia School District Superintendent John Ward was welcomed to the community Monday before his official first day on July 1 at an ice cream social at SAU. 1950-1959 Shortly before her death Dr. Ruth Couch ‘58 completed “The Noble Heritage of Harvey C. Couch School,” a history on this community school located in Calhoun, Ark. Dr. Couch has a great interest in preserving the history of community schools that have now been consolidated into larger districts. The 2014 recipient of the Alumni Board Scholarship is an incoming freshman who is no stranger to SAU, Cole Hendrixson. Thanks to a record gift to the Southern Arkansas University Alumni Association, plans for their pavilion are ahead of schedule to raise the roof on “Mulegating” and other campus and community events. SAU alum Laura Lusby Winning and her husband Kyle, of Little Rock, recently donated funds to name the pavilion “The Lusby Gathering Pavilion.” This gift is in dedication to Winning’s parents, Geraldine Tipton Lusby, former instructor of nursing at SAU, and Edsel Partee Lusby, former SAU sociology professor.
