SAU alum Kristi Mitchell has more than a master’s degree to show for her hard work in graduate school, she has a successful youth mentoring program. Mitchell, public information officer for the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, planned the “Pride Academy” for her professional project while she was in SAU’s Master of Public Administration program. The Continuous Improvement Commission of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) announced from its October meeting that the SAU College of Education earned continued NCATE accreditation at the initial teacher preparation and advanced preparation levels. “This accreditation is so important not only to the College of Education, but to the entire University as an indicator of the quality of our programs,” said Dr. Zaidy Mohdzain, dean of the SAU College of Education. The College of Education at SAU has developed the trust of a lifelong educator in Thema Forte, principal of Union Elementary in Texarkana, and an important bond with her school. Forte was a keynote speaker November 11, 2013, for the induction ceremony for the SAU chapter of Kappa Delta Pi – the international honor society in the field of education.
